Somatic Experiencing Therapy

therapist Gabriela Ucros, LMFT

I’m trained through Somatic Experiencing International, the premier somatic training in the U.S.

Have you been to therapy before and gained insight, but nothing really shifted?

Does your mind know better, but your body keeps reacting the same way?

Do you understand what’s going on, but feel stuck in a pattern?

When your body isn’t matching what your mind is saying, it is not a lack of willpower. It is stored survival energy that never got to finish its response.

Somatic therapy helps when talking wasn’t enough.

Clients Come To Me When They’re

  • Stuck after talk therapy

  • Have big reactions to small things

  • On edge and reactive

  • Anxious or burnt out

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Shut down, numb, living without joy

You are not broken, your nervous system just needs a update

How Somatic Therapy With Me Works

Somatic therapy focuses on the language of your body. Symptoms aren’t random, they’re signals. We slow down to notice what your nervous system is holding.

Together, we see where trauma still shows up and help your body complete responses that were interrupted while you were busy surviving.

Approaches I Use

  • A body-based approach that helps release stored survival energy in the body by processing trauma gently and safely.

  • Identifies the different parts of you; the ones that are holding the pain and the ones that developed to protect you and helps them work together instead of against each other. There are no bad parts,  they all have a function and serve a purpose in your internal world.

  • Processes traumatic memories so they no longer overpower your present-day reactions.

  • Looks at how early relationships shaped your patterns in intimacy and trust.

  • Explores deeper unconscious relational themes that continue to repeat.

This isn’t reliving the past.

It’s about helping your nervous system get into the present

Testimonials From Clients

“Gabriela’s treatment has been transformative. She conducts her sessions with sincerity, empathy, and, most importantly, love, ensuring the process is inclusive. She makes the therapy treatment collaborative and holistic, allowing you to have input and control over your own treatment. She helps you overcome trauma obstacles without pressuring you into anything you’re not ready for, which is something crucial for a survivor. She builds a foundation with knowledge and somatic techniques, allowing you to understand, process, and metabolize trauma with the tools you will need. Throughout the process, she never leaves you alone, helping you navigate trauma from a safe place. You can explore and revisit difficult moments, and she ensures you remain, and leave the session completely regulated. She has helped me fully understand the mind-body connection in reation to trauma, enabling me to comprehend my body’s correlation and how both work . I’ve learned to regain control, inhabit my body, and take space. Being treated by her has been life changing, and I can’t express how much it has helped me overcome CPTSD.”

About Gabriela Ucrós, LMFT

Most of my clients arrive with a deep intellectual understanding of their "why," yet their bodies remain stuck in the same protective bracing, collapse, or anxiety. My therapy is designed for those tired of insight without change. We don't just talk about your story; we work directly with the real-time shifts in your nervous system.

My clinical foundation began in Colombia and was refined at Northwestern University, but my true training happened in the field. I have sat in the sacred stillness of end-of-life care and navigated the high-activation environments of incarcerated populations and community mental health.

Living across Colombia, New Zealand, and the U.S. taught me that our bodies carry our history. I understand how different environments call forth different parts of your physiology, and I use that global lens to help you resonate with your truest identity.

I entered my own therapy at twelve years old to make sense of the world and my family dynamics. That early spark has matured into what I believe is my soul purpose: to accompany humans as a compassionate witness on the journey toward their internal world.

I believe in the wisdom of a body that moves. Outside of the therapy room, I integrate my own regulation through running marathons, singing in a choir, and dancing. As a mother to a little boy, I am deeply immersed in co-regulation and attachment every day. Whether I am traveling, in nature, or in session with you, I am committed to the steady, rhythmic work of being fully alive.

Availability: I work with clients in person in Santa Monica, and via Telehealth across California.
